In the last few days…
I broke in my pirate hat – my pirate beard is growing in (and all should be ready by Halloween time) – learned more Oedipus lines – wrote more voodoo/epic poetry – drank the last, little bit of my rum – had my hair played with (and once again found myself wishing I had the ability to purr…to better express my feelings at such times) – discussed the differences between women pirates and pirate wenches – received a very generous gesture from some good friends that while, not yet quite necessary, reminded me that regardless of my persecutors, be they quota crunching cops yelling “suspicious!” or loan hungry debtors shouting “deadbeat” or torch-wielders crying “evil!” . . . I’ve surrounded myself with fantastic folk who can call “bullshit!” (thanks everyone).
And now it is most definitely October and my mindscape is turning to pumpkin patches and when they’re ripe, they’ll grow faces and sing.
After it’s done being a pirate beard, presumably it can be re-purposed as an Oedipus beard.
To this wild tune he pierced his eyeballs time and time again, till bloody tears ran down his beard – not drops but in full spate a whole cascade descending in drenching cataracts of scarlet rain. (I couldn’t find any particularly good translations online, but you get the point.)
Though you’ll need to be careful that it doesn’t forget itself and call Tiresias a scurvy dog.
Yes, It’ll shift itself over for Oedipus beard on the following week (whatever they decide they want me to look like). Or maybe I can just convince them to let me go in, with my Halloween costume, as Pirate Oedipus – the scurvy Sea Dog who done had his timbers shivered by his mum.
Now that I would have to come see. *laugh*
As it is, I’m still tempted. Madison doesn’t seem to do Greek tragedy, or at least does it rather infrequently. I enjoy being reminded of why I have a degree in Classics, and it was pretty much for the plays (and the myths, oh, and the professors who liked to draw phalli whenever they could find an excuse to do so).
Speaking of Halloween and debt… you and Nick owe me money… But it’s $80.85 each now b/c camping costs got refunded. So we’ll have to find somewhere to camp.
Yes! I’ll have that to you in two shakes of some critter’s tail.
And it sounds like most of that happened on Friday night. Am I the only one truly excited to see Josh in an all out beard?
And Josh, I was almost scared. At first I read “I broke my pirate hat” and I was about to cry. Then I reread it. *sigh of relief*
No no…tis a sturdy leather hat…meaning it will only get better with wear. I still have the leather jacket I wore in eight grade.
Yeah…alot of that did happen on Friday night.
