Hey.
Can anyone tell me if there is a particular syndrome or term for a parent (specifically a mother) who suddenly resents her child, or is suddenly alienated by them, thinks its not their child…something tying in to old changeling mythology (“My little boy was sweet and happy…but something came and took him away and left this screaming, red thing.”)….that sort of thing.
Thanks bunch!

If you can get copies of those articles, they address what you’re talking about, I think.
Thank you, love.

hehe, thanks again.
I’m not writing a Changeling novel (that would ROCK)…but I did get to write a Changeling chapter in the novel π

Hmmmm…besides adolescence, you mean?
Munchausen-by-proxy syndrome is similar to what you’re describing, though not exactly.
Cool. Thanks π

Alhough I’m not aware of any specific research tying them together, I would think that a case of post-partum psychosis could manifest itself as becoming convinced that one’s baby is not in fact one’s baby.

Another possible basis for the changeling idea is a genetic metabolic disorder in the child that doesn’t manifest iself until the baby is several months old such as phenylketonuria where an apparently normal, healthy baby may suddenly change in physical appearance and personality.

I don’t know if that is the sort of thing you are looking for, but it’s a couple of ideas.
Thanks! Very helpful π
